SHOCKER OF KENYAN SENATORS FLYING TO JAPAN TO WATCH STARVED VOLLEYBALL PLAYER IN JAPAN

BY GRAYCEBILLS O'JUNIOR

It is emerging out that the Speaker of the Senate, Hon. Kenneth Lusaka, has cleared five Senators to watch the FIVB Women’s World Volleyball championship that kicks off on Saturday, in Japan.
The five Senators: Christopher Lagat(Bomet), Irungu Kang’ata(Murang’a) and nominated Senators: Christine Zawadi, Beatrice Kwamboka and Victor Prengei will each pocket a whooping Kshs. 1.2 Million for the two weeks. This is in accordance with the Parliamentary’s Service Commission rates where members are paid Kshs. 100,000 while on international trips. Their air tickets costs will also be footed by the ex chequer.
Surprisingly, the Kenyan players who are participating in championship were each paid Sh80,000 for the three weeks they will be in Tokyo. This means each player will get a per diem of just Ksh. 3,800.

NYAGARAMA'S STRANGE PRAYER REQUEST

By Graycebills O'Junior

Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama shocked residents when he asked them to pray for him to get funds for furnishing his new palatial home, worth more than Sh40 million.
Nyagarama who was speaking at his Tente home during  a thanks  giving ceremony, told the people who had come to congratulate him for his victory in the concluded ODM party primaries that he needed money to furnishing the house.
He spoke about his  house as he defended himself against claims that the Sh100 million county education bursary had been diverted to other functions.
But his supporters were surprised that a governor could seek help towards the completion of his house yet it was the villagers who expected "ogoserwa"- ekigusi word for hand outs  from him.
"I never expected that from governor because it seemed like a softer way of telling us he didn't have money to dish to us as an appreciation to our goodwill in ensuring he is re-elected," said Elizabeth Moraa, one of governor's supporters.
"I thank you for nominating me as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party flag-bearer in Nyamira. Thank you again for coming to my new home and I have taken it well that you have stepped in my garden. But you can pardon me that I could not allow you to enter my house because it is not furnished. We dont have cash to do the finishings and I can only request you to pray for us to get more money so that we can arrange it properly for your next visit," Nyagarama told the crowd.
The Governor who had conducted roadshows across the county, thanking the residents of voting for him during the nominations told the anxious residents that he will personally issue cheques to successful applicants of the bursary cash and assured them that the selection of applicants was above board.
"Selecting of applicants who would be considered for the bursaries was above-board and all the beneficiaries will be known to everyone. The process was done with high integrity and that is what we stand for," Nyagarama said.
The education bursary is among the many flagship projects which the devolved unit has established for the last four years.
The county chief also appealed to aspirants and residents to conduct peaceful campaigns as the country moves towards the August 8, elections.
Nyagarama will be facing seven candidates in the polls as he seeks to retain his position.

PARLIAMENT NOW ACT ON POLICE RECRUITMENT SAGA

BY STANDARD MEDIA:

The National Assembly has ordered police employer, the National Police Service Commission to push forward the August 5 reporting date for recruits pending probe. The order was issued during the Wednesday morning sitting by parliament’s administration and national security chairman Asman Kamama following an outcry by MPs who termed the recently concluded recruitment a sham. Ads by PlusHDV1.5Ad Options Consequently Kamama has ordered Johnstone Kavukludi of National Police Service Commission ( NPSC) and CID director Ndegwa Muhoro to appear before his committee on Monday as parliament begins a parallel investigation over allegations of bribery, nepotism and political interference during the July 14 exercise. Also summoned to appear before the parliamentary committee is the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) chairperson Mumo Matemu. EACC had also launched its own investigations. Six thousand recruits were expected to report at the Kenya Police Training College in Kiganjo, Nyeri County as 4,000 of those recruited as Administration Police reported to Embakasi, Nairobi County. A time has come for me when am so down. For a third time, I have lost very important data that I spent more than six days to collect. I had recorded all on a memory card which is now corrupted.

I tried all tips from professionals but none has worked. one that seemed to work was recording 'reel to reel' on Cool edit. I managed to save three files out of 107 that I had recorded. My head is running round and I feel it may burst if I don't find the solution. I am still optimistic the tech I have engaged will save my day.

MY BIG STORY - With Gary Alfonso,  a seasoned journalist and consultant media manager from S.Africa.

 BY STANLEY ONGWAE/NAIROBI.

From left is William Inganga, Stanley Ongwae, Gary Alfonso(Journalist and Media Management Consultant) and Marie Yambo pose for a photo during a mentorship session at Hilton Hotel, Nairobi. Picture by Dorothy Otieno - Internews.

It was quite an interesting and engaging session. It was that moment when you open your eyes to hear and coke your ears to see!! It all got to do with telling the best story in the best way possible. According to Gary, a great story is usually one that is told about someone who did something for a reason. That is why in major stories that we have ever celebrated, there always has been a central character who does something for a reason. It is all what can be called a Focus Statement.
A focus statement interrogates the story so as to bring out what it is that should be relayed to the audience.
In summary, good stories are about WHO and not WHAT.
